The model design itself comes from the very old game Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Being someone who used to have the game (and still does, even though it no longer runs on the more advanced computers), this vessel used to be onThis converted design from a game of old, "Starfleet Academt" by SSA provides the Romulans with a counter for the infamous Klingon Cruisers, the K'Tinga classes.
