Dark Forces II Kyle

A while ago I reviewed a Dark Forces 2 Kyle reskin for JK2, and now much to my pleasure I have a JKA version of the DF2 Kyle to review. Only this time it is from a completely different author…and not only that, it’s his first skin too, which is really quite impressive considering how good it is!

Comparing this to the original Dark Forces 2 Kyle (I put a comparison shot below) you can see that it is actually quite accurate. Kyle’s ‘grey bits’ have been removed, obviously to make him look younger, and he has new pair of pants on. There has also been some modification to the shirt to make it closer to the original character.

Adding to the plus points, this file also includes team skins, with nicer use of the red and blue colours, rather than Raven’s default Kyle team skins, which are basically just completely blue or red! Surprisingly for a first skin, this also includes new sounds and even bot support! It’s rare to find those two advanced features on a modder’s first skin. :thumbsup:

There are a few small things I think could be worked on if the author decided to do a v2 of this skin. Firstly, as you can see from the comparison shot below, the shirt needs to be more white (though it looks like its been lightened from the default Kyle skin already). Also I think the wrist cuffs could do with some more detail on them, some straps or buckles for example.

Lastly, the character icon is very similar to the default JKA Kyle icon, so I found that a bit confusing. I would suggest trying to make it stand out a bit more, so you can more easily tell the difference.

All in all though I think this is a very good skin, well made (especially for a first skin!) and pretty accurate to the original Dark Forces 2 Kyle. I look forward to seeing more from you DarthPhae!
