Introduction:

This version of the AN124 is based on the proposed AN124-210 with Rolls Royce Engines. It can fly much higher, faster and farther than the previous versions of AN124, but still contains the same basic aircraft dynamics. I have personally test-flown this model over 26,000 nm to assure her flight dynamic accuracy. After installation, and before selecting this aircraft, it is best to review the details before flight. This aircraft does not contain any kneeboard data. It is also important to have experience with heavy aircraft flight before attempting to fly this monster. She is very heavy on lift-off, and unforgiving on final approach. Below I've included a few tips that may help you fly this bird without catastrophe. These tips are designed for experienced FSX users, so please do not contact me unless you experience something totally abnormal.

Graphics:

Exceptional graphics are necessary to see all of the details that this aircraft possesses, such as the turning of the center front and rear wheels. The cargo door is controlled by using the combination, and the crew ladder is activated with the combination. The smoke is controlled with the key once all engines are started. If you don't have the smoke file installed, there will be no smoke. Simply enter the effects folder within the AN124210 folder and copy the fx_smoke_f6.fx file into the Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_XEffects folder before you take flight. Sometimes the external view of the aircraft can cause sudden failures that can be otherwise prevented while viewing through the cockpit. External view can be used during flight, but only by experienced heavy aircraft FSX pilots. You can view the frame rate of your graphics card by using three times (showing all data details). If your frame rate is below 10 frames/sec for a considerable amount of time, you either need adjust your graphic settings within FSX, or install a better graphics card (system compatible). I have personally found that the (PCIe) ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro works best for FSX.

Flying the AN124-210

Fuel tanks to full (use to call a fuel truck). Taxi smooth to assigned take-off runway. Flaps down 2 notches (5 degrees). Line-up on runway. Auto-throttle set to 250 KIAS. Auto-throttle engaged. Brakes on full. Hit the "speed" button and hold brakes to 92% N1. Release brakes and roll. Altimeter set to flight level. Set CMD on and ALT select for climb at over 100 KIAS. Allow climb to 210 KIAS and bring flaps up full . Use Nav to fly a GPS route at above 3,000 feet AGL, or control otherwise. At FL100 increase speed to 350 KIAS, then increase climb rate to 4,000 f/m. Decrease climb rate to 2,000 f/m at FL320, then to 1,500 f/m at FL420 (if climbing to FL500W/FL510E). On level cruise maintain less than 10 degrees nose-up attitude with adjusted speed (do not exceed 10 degrees nose-up) ... FL400W/FL410E=mach.84, FL500W/FL510E=mach.97.

Landing the AN124-210

Upon descent maintain mach speed to 300 KIAS, then set speed to 300 KIAS. When speed exceeds 320 KIAS, flaps down one notch (1 degree). At FL210 change speed to 260 KIAS. At FL120 set speed to 240 KIAS. Maintain 240 KIAS until you are at the proper range for ILS capture at level altitude (usually 6,000 ft AGL) runway outbound. Change speed to 180 KIAS and flaps down one more notch (5 degrees). After turn into ILS capture, set speed to 150 KIAS and flaps down one more notch (10 degrees). You will not need any more flaps until touchdown. One big problem with using ILS capture, and this aircraft, is that it will not hold the ILS descent rate on occasion. When landing it is important to use the cabin view so you can watch the ILS capture effect. If ILS does not capture your descent rate, manually force a descent and disengage the APP hold and Alt hold buttons. Descend to below the carrot and level-off, then re-engage the ILS hold (APP) until capture. This also occurs on my AN225-210 version, but I've had no complaints about it yet. To land, just wait until you are over the runway, then disengage all autopilot buttons. Pull back a little on the yoke and land with a very slight nose-up attitude. Experienced users can do this through an external view, which is very interesting and fairly graphic. Once your nose gear are on the ground, spoilers up (/ key), flaps extended , then full reverse throttle to 50 KIAS. Neutralize throttle , spoilers down (/ key), and flaps up . Brake to 30 KIAS, then throttle-up to maintain approximately 18 KIAS for taxi. Taxi to ATC assigned gate, or any gate you desire (you are bigger than everyone else, after all).
