History Rewritten is an expansion and enhancement of Beyond the Sword designed for both Mac and Windows, single and multiplayer. Play as one of 55 civilizations, each with two unique units, a unique building, a unique wonder, custom city and unit art. Strive for dominance against 166 animated leaders, each with a unique combination of traits and customized personality. Found cities with names dynamically chosen to consider leader and era. Discover natural wonders, savannah, wetlands, reefs, islands, and many new resources. Select improvements to best match your terrain and keep pollution manageable - cottage spam won't get you far in this mod! Advance through a completely rebuilt and more detailed techtree. Earn faith and use prophets to found 18 diverse religions, trigger reformations and chose from 36 tenets to customize your state religion. Specialize your cities to independently generate different great people, and compete against 14 overhauled real-world corporations. Choose from 36 civics carefully... lest dissent rise high in your cities and trigger a civil war!
The philosophy of History Rewritten is that new content and new mechanics are great, but only when they are designed and integrated well; carefully balanced, using quality art, and with a unique role to play. Many aspects of BTS (and its UI) have been rebalanced or redesigned to accomodate this, some quite extensively. The mod is actively developed; there've been 23 updates since release back in 2010, and more are planned.

History Rewritten values historical accuracy, but equally strives for historical diversity and to avoid determinism. After all, you are not recreating history - you are rewriting it!
